Newton Abbot water polo club held their annual presentation evening at Newton abbot race course on the 22nd of January 2011.
A table full of trophies and medals were handed out to the five different teams within the club. Starting with the under 15 who won the Devon league, but unfortunately lost in the semi final of the knock out cup. The under 17 next had the league winner’s trophy and also Cup winner’s Trophy along with medals handed to them by club president Adrian Brown. The under 19s won the Devon cup and came second in the league, they went forward to receive the 3 foot cup shield and silver league medals. Again the Ladies team kept hold of the Devon league and the Devon Cup for the sixth year in a row. This is a massive achievement for the ladies who also came second in the Bristol and West league. The Senior Men won the Bristol and West League and now will be playing in Division one, they collected Medals and the league trophy.
Also the club had a number of personal achievements, Tommy Whiting and Laura Shears received coaches’ player for their efforts and for their success in being selected and representing Great Britain at the European championships. No other club in the UK have a male and female youth combination playing for GB. Laura Shears also received Devon Swimmer of the year 2010.
Also last year the club had ten players selected to play for Devon at Inter county competitions. Last season produced great results, winning 57 games, drawing 2 and only losing 7. Newton Abbot water polo were unbeaten at home, next year they want to keep that record and are always on the lookout for new players, regardless of age or standard, new or old, come have ago with a team who have achieved so much.
