WATER POLO MATCH REPORTS

Newton Abbot Ladies ran out 11-0 winners in a home fixture against Barnstaple in the Devon Ladies League. The home side took a 3-0 lead with 2 goals in the first quarter from Andy Ayres and one from Laura Shears. Shears completed her hat trick with 2 goals in Q2 and scored twice more in Q3, Paris James also scoring twice. Laura Shears took her final goal tally to 6 and Faye Drinkwater also made the score sheet in the final quarter in a good all-round performance by Newton Abbot.  Also in Newton’s squad: - Sue Webb, Katie Trist Hayley Beer and Amber James.

 

Newton Abbot Ladies secured a good 12-1 victory at home against Exeter at Teignmouth Lido in the Devon Ladies League. Amber James opened the scoring for Newton Abbot within 30 seconds of the start, and there were also goals from Laura Shears and Faye Drinkwater in the first quarter, with Exeter scoring one in reply. Exeter were awarded a penalty, which they failed to convert, at the start of the 2nd quarter, but Faye Drinkwater scored 2 further goals. Goals from Jess Shears and Paris James  took Newton Abbot’s score to 7-1 at the end of Q3, and the home side consolidated their win with 5 good goals in the final session – Hayley Beer, Drinkwater (2), Laura Shears and Louise McGowan all making the score sheet.  Sue Webb, Katie Trist and Annie Tinsley completed Newton’s squad

 

Newton’s Men’s team, not to be outdone, secured an emphatic 17-1 in a Bristol and West League match away to a Frome Development side.  The visitors took a 3-0 win at the end of the first quarter, with goals from Darren Westacott (2) and Greg Latto. Newton extended their lead to 5 goals at the end of Q2, Jon Trist and Latto scoring one goal apiece. Two further goals each from Latto and Westacott were scored in Q3: at the start of the final quarter, Frome scored their only goal of the match before Newton found the net 8 times in 5 minutes, with a hat-trick from Rob Harvey, 2 further goals each from Latto and Westacott and one from Dave Shrubb. Dave Sercombe, Phil Whiting, and Wayne England completed Newton’s line-up.
