MORE THAN FIFTY PERSONAL BESTS
AT MILLFIELD MEET
Twenty-two swimmers from Newton Abbot
represented the club at the prestigious Avalon Open Meet, held at
Millfield
School
.
These swimmers came back flushed with success - 52
personal best times were secured and several swimmers came away with awards,
presented to the top six swimmers in each event.Twenty-six clubs from
Wales
and the West were represented at this Meet.
George Fice (age 10) opened
Newton
's
account with a fine fifth place in the first event, boys 200m Backstroke, which
was also a 12 second PB. In the girls' 200m Back there were good PBs for the 10
year olds, Emmy Shaddick (who came 4th), Emma Silk and Esther Crompton.
Guy Bennett was the winner of the 200m Fly in the 10 years
boys' age group (PB); for the girls, Yelena Alton came 2nd (PB) and Charlotte
Wright 3rd. Nicole Wickens was the winner of this event for the 11 year old
girls (PB) and Beth Jones came 2nd. In the 100m Fly, Tom Burford (15) came 4th
(PB) in an exciting finish which proved to be a dead heat.
Nine year old Tom Normington came 3rd in the 50m Free with
a good PB, and for the girls Lara Cosford aged 11 came 5th. The strong 10
years' age group was won by Abbi Carne (PB); also competing in this event were
Brogan Mace, Amy Tozer, Sammy Basham, Esther Crompton, Chloe Kemp, Nicole
Wickens and Beth Jones.
Again, Newton had several entrants in the girls 50m
Breaststroke, with awards going to Charlotte Wright 6th (PB) - 10 years and
Chloe Kemp(11) - 2nd (PB).
In the 200m Breaststroke for girls, Charlotte Wright (10)
came 4th as did Chloe Kemp aged 11 (both PBs). Tom Carne (13) came 6th in the
boys' event.
In the 200m Free, there was
a good PB for Lewis Hailstone (12). Emma Silk came 5th for the 10 year old
girls and Emmy Shaddick 7th (PBs). Chloe Kemp and Lara Cosford (aged 11)
finished 4th and 5th respectively. Emma Garrett (13) came 5th in the 100m Free
as did Tom Burford (PB) for the 15 years' boys.
In the 50m Backstroke for Boys Tom Normington (9) came 3rd
and Guy Bennett (10) was 6th. This was a particularly successful event for the
girls: 10 year old Abbi Carne secured her second win with a good PB and there
were also PBs for Charlotte Wright and Abbie Clarke. Jess Twose (PB) won the 11
years age group, and Beth Jones came 3rd. Emma Garrett (13) finished 6th.
Good PBs were secured in the 50m Fly by the following
girls: Brogan Mace (9), Abbie Clarke, Emma Silk and Esther Crompton (all aged
10). 11 year old Jess Twose came 2nd and Lara Cosford 4th (both PBs).
Good performances were also recorded by
Newton
's younger girls in the 200m Individual Medley,
with PBs for Carne and Wright who finished 2nd and 6th respectively in the 10
years age group, and also for Clarke and Crompton. Twose, Jones and Wickens
finished 3rd, 5th and 6th in the 11 years age group and Cosford secured a PB.
In the Boys 200 IM, Guy Bennett (10) finished 4th, and
there was a PB for Ryan Rogers (11). |
