Newton
Abbot's small squad performed well at the 2007
Devon Interclub championship, finishing in a very
creditable 6th place - 16 teams participated in
the event. Several of the swimmers taking part
achieved top 10 finishes and Personal Best times,
across all the age groups.
Jessica Twose
won the 50m Backstroke race in the 11u age group
with a Personal Best time: she also came 9th in
the 13u Fly and 4th in the 11u Fly. Further success
in this age group came from Ryan Rogers, with
two 4th places - 50m Free (PB) and 50m Back; Lara
Cosford finished 9th in the 50 m Free and Chloe
Kemp secured a PB of nearly 2 seconds with her
4th place in the 50m Breast. Tommy Whiting came
4th for the boys in this event. Guy Bennett came
5th in the 50m Fly (PB).
In the 13u age group Sophie Irons
finished 10th in the 50m Breast and she secured
a PB in the 100m Breast when swimming in the Open
Age Group; Edward Glanville achieved 2 top 10
finishes (50m Fly PB). Emma Garrett also swam
well, finishing 7th in the 15u 100m Free and had
a 6th and 5th place (50m Back - PB) in her own
13u age group
Newton showed their strength in
the 15u boys' category: Benjamin Jordan came 6th
in the Open 100m Fly and bettered his time when
he finished 3rd in the 15u Fly by almost 2 seconds.
Jordan also came 2nd in the 100m Breast with a
PB of over 3 seconds. Club Captain Richard Glanville
also secured a 2nd place in the 100m Back and
came 4th in the 100m Free (PB).
In the Open age group, Max Morrison
came 5th in the 100m Back and 4th in the Freestyle
(PB); Laura Trist came 8th in the 100m Fly (PB).
Newton's swimmers
also did well in the relay events: these results
included 7th place in the Mixed 400m Free (Twose,
Rogers, Garrett, Cooper, Trist, E & R Glanville,
Morrison); 6th in the mixed 15u 200m Medley (
Irons, Cooper, R Glanville & Jordan);and a
good 4th place in the 11u Medley Relay (Twose,
Whiting, Bennett and Cosford).
