WATER POLO REPORT FROM NASC
17th October 2007
Newton Abbot’s u15 team won the League title with convincing victories in their last 2 matches, retaining their 100% unbeaten record this season.

In an away match at Torquay, Newton Abbot defeated the home side 12 – 2: Tom McLeman (Newton) scored the opening goal in the first quarter.  Following goals in Q2 from Ed Glanville (2), Captain Jack Beer and Jess Shears, Torquay pulled a goal back, so the Quarter ended 4-1 in Newton’s favour.  Beer then completed his hat trick and 11 year old Tommy Whiting also scored, so Newton went into the final quarter with an 8-1 lead.    McLeman scored again at the start of Q4, and a goal from Jordan Roberts and 2 from Laura Shears secured the win for Newton, despite the home team scoring again in the final quarter.
Also in Newton’s squad: Alex Morrison, Ed Joffe, Louise McGowan, Chloe Roberts, Paris James, and Laura-Beth Morrison.

Newton Abbot’s u15’s final match of the season resulted in a fine 16-5 home win, and future promise was shown by Newton’s youngsters including Paris James, Chloe Roberts and Laura Beth Morrison.  Ed Glanville opened Newton’s account with 2 good goals in the first quarter, and extended this lead to 4-0 with shots on target from Tom McLeman and Laura Shears.  Jack Beer scored a hat-trick in Q2 and Glanville completed his; Jess Shears also scored for Newton.  Q3 saw goalmouth action at both ends, as Exeter scored twice, but Glanville scored again for Newton; Beer scored twice, as did Chloe Roberts, her first League goals.  Moving into the final quarter with a 14-2 lead, Newton was able to field their younger players: Laura Morrison scored on this her League debut, and Roberts completed her hat-trick.  However Exeter did not concede victory easily, producing a final 3 goal flurry in the last 2 minutes.
Also in Newton’s squad: Alex Morrison (goalkeeper), Jordan Roberts, and Tommy Whiting.

Newton Abbot’s u15 team won their Devon Cup semi-final match at home to Paignton at Teignmouth Lido by 12 goals to 5.   Newton went on the attack from the start of the match; by the end of Q3 they had achieved a 9-1 lead, with goals from Tom McLeman (2), Ed Glanville (5), Jack Beer and Jess Shears. Paignton threw everything into attack in the final quarter and scored 4 goals, but Newton also added to their tally, with Alex Morrison, more usually found in goal, moving into the outfield and scoring twice: Beer also scored again.

Also in Newton’s squad: Laura Shears, Paris James, Ed Joffe, Jason Roberts, Chloe Roberts, Tommy Whiting, Laura-Beth Morrison.

Newton Abbot’s u17 team suffered a narrow home League defeat by Barnstaple, the visitors running out 6-4 winners after scoring 4 goals in the final quarter.  This was always going to be a tight defensive game: Newton defended well and goalkeeper Guillaume Godbhere produced some good saves from the strong Barnstaple attack.   Barnstaple took the lead in the 2nd minute of the game, but Newton equalised through a goal from Richard Glanville in the 2nd quarter.  The visitors scored again, then Dan Evans equalised again for Newton at the end of Q3 – 2-2.  Both sides realised victory was there for the taking: Newton went into the lead for the first time (4-3) with a further goal apiece from Evans and Glanville, but the visitors’ physical strength secured them further goals and a good win at the end of a very exciting quarter.
