Newton Abbot Swimming Club hosted the second day of their annual gala in September achieving some fantastic results for some of the younger swimmers who were new to competition.

In the 50 Breaststroke 9 & Under age group Amelia Booth first (PB), Charlotte Mitchell second, Cara Morton Third and Erin Throgmorton-Appleby fourth.  Robyn Elliot-Ogen was first in the 50 Breast 10 year olds with Molly Burford in second place.  The 50 Breaststroke 11 year old race was won by Jess Sanders-Wyatt, second Lauren Reed and joint third Beverley Cock and Sophie Cooper, all with PB’s.  Wyatt and Cock then took first and third in the 11 year old 100 Free event.  In the 12-13 year old 50 Breaststroke saw Rachel Spooner first, Emma Silk second and Clara Smith third. Chloe Kemp, Charlotte Wright and Abbie Clarke in first, second and third respectively.

In the younger boys 50 Back 9 & Under race Thomas Manley first, Oliver Wright second, Matthew Ramsey third and Oliver Smith fourth.  The 10 year olds Thomas Martin first and Jacob Cacchione second.  A tough race was the 50 backstroke for the 12-13 year old boys with Connor Brodie first, Will  Amey second and Jack Pearson third.  Other swimmers competing in this race were Harrison Boult, Joe Millward-Nicholls, Samuel Booth, Henry May, Owen Turner and James Wright.  Ellis Abbot winning the 50 Backstroke 14-15 year old event and Ed Glanville the 16 & over backstroke.

Georgia smith took second place in the 50 Fly 9 & Under event and Kate Burford taking fourth place in the 50 Fly 12-13 year old event.  The 50 fly for the 15-15 year old girls Nicole Wickens first, Abbie Clarke second, Charlotte Wright third and Emmy Shaddick fourth with only six seconds between each finish.  Eric Perkin  won the 50 Freestyle 11 year old event.  The 50 Freestyle event 12-13 year old saw Dan Hughes take fourth position with Harrison Boult following very close with .44 of a second behind Hughes.  Hughes then went onto take second place in the 100 Breaststroke event.  The 15 year old 50 Freestyle event was won by Sebastian Burleigh in first and Ellis Abbot second.

Both Laura Silk and Charlotte Burleigh took fifth and sixth place respectively in the 50 Breast 11 year old race both setting PB’s, as did Gabby Martin in the 14-15 year old 50 Breaststroke race coming home in fourth.  Emmy Shaddick then knocked seven seconds off her PB in the 11 year old 50 Fly event.

Other swimmers competing in the gala were Tiago Ford, Sasha Stuckey Howard, Thomas Amey, Charlotte Mitchell, Thomas Gray, Flavio Ford, James Wright, Sophia Cox, Shanna Broaders.
